Roman Holiday Auction - September 13
Banner Bank's Kirkland, Washington branch sponsored this year's Childhood Cancer Careline, Giving From the Heart’s Auction on Saturday, Sept. 13th. The theme of this year's auction was 'Roman Holiday'. Invitees were magically transported into a private Roman villa complete with grapevines and an amazing bella luna.
The evening began with luscious antipastos, followed by salads worthy of Caesar, pasta dishes, and of course, dolce delicioso. Auction items (including stays at a number of provincial palaces) collected a whole lot of lira! Proceeds will go directly to those families who need aid while dealing with the scourge of childhood cancer, including mortgage assistance, insurance premiums, gas cards and more.
A heartfelt thanks goes to the financial sponsorship from Banner Bank who insured a successful evening. In keeping up with the 21st century, we added technology to this year’s event; an online auction that allowed for many auction items to be available several weeks before the actual event. This feature gave us maximum exposure of our organization’s mission and allowed coast-to-coast bidding over the worldwide web. We now have new supporters in 26 different states!
With great appreciation, we also would like to thank all our community sponsors: Kenmore-Grocery Outlet, Great Harvest Bread Co. of Lake Forest Park, Kirkland Trader Joe's, Mountlake Terrace Thriftway, Woodinville and Thrasher's Corner QFC grocery stores, Juanita Village Starbucks, Bothell Fred Meyer store, and Washington Vo-Tec Culinary Arts.
The evening ended with a special volunteer award given to Vera Mezich, our reigning “Procurement Diva”. The night would not come together so effortless without the help of our wonderful volunteers! Special thanks to Kim and Melissa Bigham, Catherine Eisenbarth, Keri Dillinger, Lori Gavin, Ian Stephan, Christie Schumacher, Brett Clark, The Stout family – Robert, Alex and David, Ron Simmons and host: Preston Plaxco.
We hope you’ll join us next year! It’s not to early to ‘Save the Date’ for next year’s event planned for Saturday, September 12, 2009, themed “A Night In Venice”.
Moving testimonials and photos from grateful families touched the hearts of all that attended.

Programs and Regular Meetings
Children undergoing chemotherapy are very susceptible to infections. Therefore, regular playgroups, school, and public activities are often out of the question. Our Social Events are a way for children to play in a clean, fun environment with other children that have no hair. This promotes and maintains relationships outside the hospital setting, decreases the sense of social isolation, and provides a much needed break from the rigors of cancer treatment. We are providing an opportunity for kids who are on treatment to interact with kids who are off treatment. This will help to promote lasting support and friendships as well as hope for a future.
